How To Create Achievable Goals
HOLY MOLY how is it already February?! By now, if you're anything like me, your New Year's Resolutions will already have slipped into oblivion and you'll be wondering how it has all gone so wrong so early. I GET IT. I really do. And the majority of the population will most probably be feeling the same.
So why do NY's resolutions get forgotten so quickly? And what can we do to make this year the best year EVER? The answer my friends is goals. But not just any goals...very specific, achievable goals that you are actually able to stick to.
To be successful in life, we need a process to keep our visions and dreams visible and always top of our minds and, lucky for you, I have finally found one that works!
The ultimate dream
First things first, let's focus on your long-term, lifelong goals and dreams. What does your dream life look like? What do you want to achieve by the time your 50/60/70? Take time to think about it. Brainstorm, write about your 'dream day', draw pictures, create a Pinterest, or whatever works for you! Just make sure you have a really clear idea of what you want and where you want to be in the future.
Once you can visualise the dream, all it takes is a plan to make it happen. And it WILL happen if you're passionate enough, if you believe in yourself, and if you HUSTLE. You just need to decide what you want and then go after it with everything you've got!
In case you were wondering, my ultimate dream is to run a successful online business that allows me to work anywhere in the world...preferably on a secluded beach with a G&T in hand. Wanna join me?
Let's break it down
It's all very well having the ultimate dream, but how do we get there? Once you know your long term goals, it's important to focus on achievable, short-term goals that will help you get to where you want to be.
Think about smaller, more specific goals for the next week, month and year...here's 4 simple steps to help you:
- Write down the following headings, and set 3 goals under each. Make sure that your goals are SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely):
- Health and Fitness
- Under each goal, write down 3 key steps to get there.
- Once you have your 12 goals, make list of your TOP 5 and focus on these first. It is important to prioritise so that you don't feel overwhelmed.
- Identify your next steps to get started and get these top 5 goals in motion. Don't focus on everything all at once, just think about the first small step to get you there. The most important advice I can give is just to START. Don't let fear/uncertainty/doubt get in the way. Just. Freakin'. Start!
Remember that vision is key - if you can picture yourself living your dream life in the future and you keep this picture alive in your mind, you will be motivated to keep moving forwards.
And it's ok to have ridiculously big dreams as these incite excitement and energy into our lives. I always think you should aim for stars, but it's ok if you only reach the moon as this is still pretty darn amazing!
Worried about sticking to your goals?
I can't express enough how important it is to write your goals down. Whether it's on your phone, your computer or a good old fashioned piece of paper, make sure you make a note of them and check in with your goals every day to make sure you're on track. Maybe even stick them to your wall so that they are staring at you every morning when you wake up.
Similarly, creating a vision board can reallyyy help - whether it be the house you would love to live in one day, the dream business, or the happy healthy body that you've been craving for years - just find lots of inspiring images (I LOVE Pinterest for this) and create a board that will help inspire you to keep working towards the vision every day.

If you think you'll need extra help sticking with your goals, share them with people who love and support you and will hold you accountable. Alternatively you could tell the world about them on social media...just do whatever works best for you!
As a society we really don't celebrate ourselves enough and I think it is hugely important to do so!! Whenever you reach a goal or milestone, however small, take a step back and CELEBRATE.
If you're anything like me, you're probably always striving for something better and never content with the progress you're making (I'm working on this!!). This is pretty common but definitely not healthy or productive. Recognising and celebrating your wins will not only keep you motivated but will also help you to live in (and be happy in) the present moment.
