Overindulged Over The Easter Weekend? Here's 5 Ways To Get Your Health Back On Track

Chocolate. TICK.

Hot cross buns. TICK.

Chocolate hot cross buns. TICK.

Red wine. SO MANY TICKS.

Yup, literally the dream weekend. All ma favourite treats rolled into 4 days. Life was good until the horrible bloaty, sluggish feeling kicked in this evening. URGH.

If you’re feeling like me and looking to beat the Easter bloat, here’s some tips to get your body and mind back on track:

1. Run, Forest, run!

One of the best ways to get your body back in shape is good old-fashioned exercise. In the short term exercising will help you to burn fat, bolster your immune system and will help to drain impurities from your cells. In the long term, regular exercise will build strength, increase your brainpower (by activating growth-stimulating proteins in the brain) and will slow the aging process. 2. Cut out processed foods and refined sugar

Swap the junk food for nourishing whole foods and you’ll notice a HUGE difference in your energy levels. Processed foods, such as the heavenly hot cross buns, are full of empty calories which will temporarily fill you up but they fail to offer your body any real nutrients. You’ll notice you soon feel hungry again after as your body is craving the nutrients it needs to run effectively. The solution, cut the C.R.A.P…Caffeine, Refined Sugar, Alcohol and Processed foods (thanks James Duigan!)

3. Become a green eating machine

In order to increase your energy levels, you need to replace the vitamins and minerals that your body is craving – eating lots of green veggies is the best way to do this! Not only are they full of nutrients, they also contain fiber which helps to control your cravings and blood-sugar spikes. Plus they are DELICIOUS and leave you feeling really satisfied and healthy. Personally I love spinach and kale (I know, right) but there are loads to choose from…lettuce, rocket, watercress, zucchini, broccoli…the list goes on, just try to eat 3-4 cups a day.

4. Enjoy hot water with lemon in the mornings

This is such a deliciously refreshing way to start the day! Not only does it wake you up, the lemon is full of vitamin C which helps to clear the yukky acidic build up in your body and will kick start your digestion. Make sure you're drinking 2-3 liters of water every day to keep your body hydrated.

5. Take a detox bath

If you’re lucky enough to have a bath in your home, the best way to end any day is a relaxing, detox bath using Epsom salts. These magical salts will help to draw toxins from your body, whilst soothing your nervous system. The sulfur will help to relieve any aches and the magnesium helps to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain. So you’ll go to bed feeling, chillllled out and ache free!
